close encounter with a different kind.

He is one man who can make anything possible.Be it riding a bike at 17km/min or having 9 police cases in his name while riding a bike from his house to the nearest shop.Be it submiting a week late and still have no negative marks or getting the sheets signed just before the jury.He is the only one who can go even for an all india tour without a single penny in pocket.(he hasnt done that yet,but is expected to do it soon)

Meet Mr. Bijish Anand M A (he expands this initial only when he needs to irritate someone)

He was mainly instrumental in taking arkee department from the valleys of ignorance to the heights of fame in college. He is one of the trend setters in college fashion (but no one has followed it till date)Demo week has a day dedicated entirely to him.He together with his room mate forms one of the most respected singing duo in the hostel.

As his room mate at the MH, AJ(a fellow classmate) would readily put in "he is a phenomenon,he is a living legend".Ask anyone at the MH and all has got only nice things to say about Bijish. Be it deepak who has by now forgot that he has a UPS, or eldhose who used to own a bike,or joseph who still cherishes the days he had his speakers with him. The influence he has in the hostel is
absoltely great. The fact that MH day had a fashion show dedicated entirely to him is just an example of this.

After trying for almost a week we finally got a chance to talk with him.He asked us to meet him in his room c-312.We reached the place at time and had to wait almost one hour to finally see the man.(that one hour in c-312 was really spooky. We saw many eight legged creatures for the first time, in that room.) Finally the man arrived.Dressed in a meroon kurtha and a white pants he looked really impressive. We had to wait five more minutes before he was ready for the interview.

Q:First of all thanks Mr Bijish for spending your valuable time with us.
MAB: oh. dont mention it.Its my pleasure.

Q:So hows life going.

MAB: Our jury is just over.Mickavaarum thuppum(we didn't know how to translate this statement).Training starts soon.I'll be
doing it either in trivandrum or calicut.

Q: About your course, have you felt that taking architecture was a mistake.

MAB: No, no, as long as we have senoirs and juniors there is no problem.

Q: Is it true that you employ many people including non arkees during times of submission.

MAB: See architecture is nothing but a management skill.Whether you have talent or something like that is not a problem.
The final result is important. Whether i employ people or not is not a matter.Afterall the idea is my own.

Q:Your friends said that you use a lot of "whether you have something like that or" and " is nothing but" in your answer
sheets and messages. Can u comment on it.
MAB: This is nothing but a false allegation .I dont want to comment on it.

Q:Is it true that you use only pulsar and unicorn

MAB:Thats because they are the only bikes that suits my personality

Q:There's a lot of talk about your dress sense. How about it

MAB: It can be explained very easily. "simple yana powerful".

Q:But still people say that only you have the guts to wear things like that

MAB:See,guts is nothing but a...

He didn't complete that answer when someone came at the door and asked "eda saadhanam undo"?? He replied yes and went after that guy.We were again left alone in the room. This time we didn't waste time and talked to his room mate.According to him bijish is one among the most talented students in the class. But he hasn't used his potential to the maximum yet. He keeps everything to the last moment and still manages a good work.He believes in the satisfaction the work gives, rather than the marks.(thats a real creative mind)

Bijish is one of the most helpful inmates in the hostel.AJ is sure that anyone would agree to that.He is so open minded that no one would hesitate in asking him help. And the fact that nothing is impossible for him makes it even easier. His helping mentality makes him one of the most loved person in the hostel and class. AJ feels that the very presence of bijish in the hostel on the eve of a submission is a great relief. He can get you anything,at the last minutes.

He leads the coolest life in the hostel. And the fact that he is an arkee with loads of work makes it even interesting. His philosophy is very simple. "enjoy your life to the max now,coz in future you may not get a chance" So that explains his cool life and dress sense

By this this time bijish was back and we resumed the interview.

Q:Rumours say that you have a life partner in your class.
MAB:Hallo, hallo those are my personnel interests and i will manage them myself.

Q:Many say that you resemble dhanush(tamil actor) in looks and character and you are hoping that rejanikanth would
marry off his second daughter with you
MAB:Oh no this is not true(but the shyness in his face told everything. Lets hope that rejanikanth wont make a mistake once
again)

We couldnt start the next question when his phone rang.He attended that and in a few seconds time came back to us and said"sorry i have to go now.its very urgent!"We had no other option ,but to say ok and thanked the man for his valuable time.
No wonder ,he is the busiest man in the hostel.

His way of talking(a mixture of tamil, malayalam and english),his dress sense, hair style, his singing talents, and not to forget his reebok shoe(the story behind the shoe is worth another full blog) everythings so unique. This uniqueness combined with his excellent character really puts him apart.A legend indeed in many sense.

And to end ask sanjay(fellow classmate) what would he ask if the angels of heaven gave him a wish.Without any doubt he said
"to live atleast a day, like bijish"

NB: The Q's and A's are all part of the authors imagination.

life of an arkee!!!!

consider the following situations:

u haven't brushed for days....

u dont remember when u had ur last bath...

u cant recall what u had for breakfast ( if u had one )....

u dont know who won the indo-pak cric the previous day...

u haven't called home in days....

u haven't slept properly for days..

u spend more money on cigars than food a day...

if these things have happened to u then obviously u should be a student arkee.

welcome to the world of architecture, where the conditions are so bad at times that u r forced to call it : archi-torture

the above said situations are just a few in the many so called archi-symptoms,that surface at the time of an important submission. u work nite-out for days , hearing the same songs again and again from your system, borrowing stuff from pen,eraser....2 disposable glasses, match box etc from your friends.the work load is so heavy that at times u feel like leaving everything and going to some place far away where no one knows what architecture is. and while u r straining ur body to the maximum u see a majority of non arkees(b-tech's) wasting their time playing games, watching movies, arguing on completely nonsense subjects and like that.(blessed if u r not in a hostel)this is one instance where u wish ,u had some magical powers to take the time they are wasting and add to your precious time. even an addition of ten minutes can make a lot of difference. and what more, those non arkees wasting their time get jobs as soon as they reach the final year with starting salaries ten times more than ur starting salary.this thought only burdens ur already depressed morale. and not to mention the stupid and idiotic remarks they pass on u.

after many nite-outs u finally finish the stuff and submit it only to get it cut by the teachers with the most hated word of an arkee "repeat" written in bold letters somewhere in the sheet.we r yet to discover a name for the feeling that goes thru our mind at that time.i can only say that its really bad.

that is really a hell of life.

but..... just think

is there any other field where u can try anything within a defined boundary. can a doctor try something new on his patient? can an engineer try anything new on a machine? will a business man take risks to cherish his fantasies?. the answer is a defenite "no"
see falling waters, see the church of light, see ronchamp.these are all examples where arkees took their dreams to reality.

imagine sitting infront of a system for 60-70 hours a week doing the same kind of project work again and again.u r made to work so hard that u will be deprived of ur efficiency completely by the time u r in ur late 30's. this is the future life of a b-tech holder(of course there will be exceptions)
compare this to the future life of an arkee.u get different projects , u can try new stuff and have people under you to execute the work. u r better paid than a engineer once u r established.cool isn't it?

so, dont mind the work load u have now.just concentrate hard and work properly. time will come where u can sit back and relax. u give up now and its gone forever
